Sophomore running back Percy Gault broke O.J. Simpson’s school rushing record with 306 yards in 15 carries to lead City College of San Francisco to a 70-34 victory over Shasta College Saturday at San Francisco.
Gault, who also scored five touchdowns on runs of 69, five, 57, 25 and 76 yards, broke Simpson’s record of 304 yards, set in 1965 against San Jose City College. Simpson’s yardage was a national record, and his six touchdowns are still the national mark.
Gault was not the leading rusher in the game. Shasta’s Dess Douglass gained 320 yards in 25 carries and scored on runs of one and 50 yards.
