The San Diego city attorney’s office has charged four men--including three off-duty law enforcement officers--with misdemeanor battery counts in connection with a fight involving two college students at a Padres game in July.
San Diego Police Officer John Autolino, San Diego County Corrections Officers Richard Logan and Richard Janickey and another man, Eugene Stone, have each been charged with one count of battery with serious injury, according to a criminal complaint filed by Deputy City Atty. Scott Taylor.
Taylor said he filed the complaint after reviewing a police report of the incident, witness statements and a portion of videotape of the fight shown on the stadium scoreboard.
Brian Gowen, 20, a sophomore at Colorado State University, said he suffered a cut leg, a hairline fracture under his eye, cuts on his lip and bruises on his neck.
Gowen and a friend, Chuck Deprecker, said the four men provoked them by hurling full cups of beer. Gowen threw a cup of beer back and the four men scaled several rows before the fight started, they said.
If convicted, each man could spend up to one year in County Jail, Taylor said. Their arraignments are set for Nov. 8.
