Tom Hayden and Nature

In your article “Hayden on Earth” (Oct. 16), Assemblyman and Santa Monica City College teacher Tom Hayden said that nature has rights and that he wants to change the way people think about God and Earth “so that environmental preservation becomes a matter of spiritual urgency.” The article cited the New Age adherents’ rejection of God’s place as an overseer of Earth and substituting the Gaia theory in which Mother Earth is seen “as a single unit that regulates the environment.”
In my opinion, an intelligent and all-knowing God planned and caused the creation and forming of Earth that in some ways can be viewed (as R. Buckminster Fuller might say) as Spaceship Earth. Eventually, our present and environmentally precious Earth will change and progress (along with all essential and living life) and become an advanced or celestial world along with other created worlds of the universe.
