Wajima Memory

On Aug. 18, there was an article about the lacquerware in Wajima, Japan (“Japanese Lacquerware: Fine Art of Perfection”), that reminded me of our day in Wajima. In September, 1973, we spent five hours there. I am sure that the people of the town saw more of us than we saw of their city. We seemed to be such a curiosity to them, we wondered if an Occidental had ever been there before.
