ROUNDUP : Los Alamitos Girls Gain Fourth Straight League Tennis Title

Los Alamitos clinched its fourth consecutive Empire League girls’ tennis title Tuesday by defeating Esperanza, 17-1, at Esperanza.
Susan Huberman swept at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-0, 6-0, for the Griffins, who are the top-ranked team in the Southern Section Division 2-A. Los Alamitos has lost only one league match in four seasons. Valerie Palmero swept at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-2, 6-0, and is 26-1 this season for the Griffins (19-0-1, 9-0).
In Angelus League girls’ tennis:
Rosary 15, St. Joseph 3--The No. 1 doubles team of Ashleigh Aitken and Carolyn Chey didn’t give up a game while sweeping its sets for Rosary (13-4-1, 6-1), which clinched a tie for the league championship.
In Sea View League girls’ tennis:
Newport Harbor 9, University 9 (Newport Harbor wins on games, 78-76)--Jeannette Fylpaa swept at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-4, 6-4, to remain unbeaten in league play for host University (9-6, 6-2). Sarah Hawkins won two of three sets at No. 2 singles for Newport Harbor (6-2 in league), which avenged a 91-79 loss to University earlier this season.
In Angelus League girls’ volleyball:
Mater Dei 3, Rosary 0--Amy Moeller had 10 kills and six aces for host Mater Dei (12-4, 4-2).
In Empire League girls’ volleyball:
Loara 3, El Dorado 1--Anna Klein had 21 kills and Myiuki Shiba had a career-high 46 assists for visiting Loara (7-6, 4-3).
In Freeway League girls’ volleyball:
La Habra 3, Fullerton 1--Senior Zrinka Kristich had 23 kills for La Habra (14-2, 7-0). Fullerton is 9-5, 4-3.
In Sea View League girls’ volleyball:
Corona del Mar 3, Saddleback 0--Jennifer Stroffe had nine kills for host Corona del Mar (6-1, 9-7), which won, 15-1, 15-2, 15-4.
Newport Harbor 3, Woodbridge 1--Maureen McLaren had 22 kills for Newport Harbor (14-4, 5-2), which won, 15-12, 15-3, 11-15, 15-5. Woodbridge is 6-5, 3-4.
In South Coast League girls’ volleyball:
Irvine 3, Mission Viejo 0--Karissa Meith had 24 kills and five blocks for Irvine (3-4 in league), which won, 15-10, 15-1, 15-11.
In nonleague water polo:
Costa Mesa 15, Orange 5--Julian Popov had eight goals and Sam Grayeli and J.R. Porter each had three for visiting Costa Mesa (12-9). Bryan Adams had three goals for Orange (4-13).
Los Alamitos 11, Buena Park 8 (OT)--Randy Wright scored five goals for Los Alamitos (13-10), which led, 8-3, early in the fourth quarter before Buena Park scored five consecutive goals to tie the score.
