Santa Margarita Gets a Late Start but Wins Easily

BRAWLEY — Stalled early by penalties and mental mistakes, Santa Margarita controlled the second half behind the running of Josh Ireland, who scored four times Friday night to lead the Eagles to a 42-16 victory over Brawley in a nonleague game at Warne Field.
The game ended well after 11 because of a triple-header in which the freshmen, junior varsity and varsity all played on the same field in one night.
Santa Margarita led by just 13-10 after two quarters, but the Eagles owned the second half. Santa Margarita (4-3-1) outgained Brawley (3-5), 237-17, on the ground in the third and fourth quarters, with Ireland accounting for 188 yards.
