A North Hollywood man, apparently drugged, ran amok in his apartment house Thursday until he was shot dead by another tenant he had stabbed in the back, Los Angeles police reported.
Gilman Humberto Ulloa, 30, had been brandishing a knife, breaking into other units and threatening residents of the apartment building where he lived in the 6700 block of Vineland Avenue, Detective Mike Coffey said.
One tenant, Donald J. Bollen, 36, saw Ulloa with the knife and armed himself with a handgun before he and his girlfriend began washing clothes in the laundry room, Coffey said. Ulloa attacked Bollen in the laundry room about 1:15 a.m.--stabbing him four times in the back--and Bollen then shot Ulloa twice in the upper torso, Coffey said.
Ulloa was pronounced dead at the scene. Bollen was taken to Pacifica Hospital, where he was in stable condition, Coffey said. The shooting was considered self-defense, Coffey said.
