Vijaya, Desormeaux Win Turf Feature at Hollywood

Francois Fabre’s Vijaya, ridden by Kent Desormeaux, outfinished longshot Highland Tide and 4-5 favorite Guiza to win the $40,000 allowance turf feature by a nose Thursday at Hollywood Park.

The 4-year-old chestnut daughter of Lear Fan, away from the races since finishing 14th in last December’s Matriarch at Hollywood, came from off the pace to take the mile on the grass in 1:35 3/5.

The victory was worth $22,000 and raised Vijaya’s record to four wins, a second and three thirds in 10 starts. Vijaya, who is trained by Richard Mandella, has earned $122,401.
