GREEN COAST: You travel Newport Coast Road near Corona del Mar, and you’re puzzled, right? A week ago, the hills were autumn brown; now they’re spring-like green. . . . It’s “hydro-seeding,” says a spokeswoman for the Irvine Co., which owns the land. “It is for aesthetics, but we’re also planting grass to prevent future erosion.” One driver said it looked as if they were painting the hills green.
