ANACAPA ISLAND : Coast Guard Rescues 2 From Stalled Boat
A Coast Guard cutter came to the aid of two Santa Cruz boaters Friday morning after rough seas and gusting winds forced their stalled craft onto the rocks ringing the western side of Anacapa Island.
Crew members from the 82-foot cutter Point Judith arrived at Anacapa, helped the men restart their boat--a 20-foot vessel called the Awesome Whaler--and towed them to a protected cove, Coast Guard spokesman Rick Pearson said.
The rough seas that pushed the Awesome Whaler onto the rocks also prevented several other Coast Guard and National Park Service vessels from attempting a rescue, Pearson said.
The Santa Barbara Channel experienced 12-foot swells and winds exceeding 60 knots later in the day, and small craft advisories were issued.
