If shopping for gifts and entertaining the children at the same time sounds like mission impossible, consider visiting the United Nations Gift Shop in Pasadena. Besides a big Christmas card selection, the shop has elaborate Polish music boxes, imaginative African combs and batiks, intricate Tunisian rugs and Russian lacquered boxes, to name a few of the items from around the world.
Since even this display may not be enough to captivate little ones, shop docents organize a monthly folk tale and craft hour for them. This Saturday morning, from 10:30 to 11:30, there will be a winter festival featuring stories, songs, crafts and games. Parents who finish shopping before the hour is up can also peruse a variety of international literature in the in-house reading room. Admission is free.
United Nations Gift Shop, 723 E. Green St., Pasadena; (818) 449-1795.
