Du Pont Plans More Cuts: The conglomerate says it plans another round of corporate streamlining in addition to a previously announced $1-billion cost-cutting program. Robert Luft, senior vice president of Du Pont’s chemicals business, said the firm is expected to announce next month a plan to streamline Du Pont’s eight business divisions to save $2 billion annually in the next five years. The two-year cost-cutting campaign announced in July has eliminated 5,500 jobs. The new plan will consolidate business staffs that handle engineering, computers, purchasing and distribution, and manufacturing, Luft said.
