VENTURA : Girl, 11, Crossing Street Hit by Car

An 11-year-old Ventura girl was struck by a car as she tried to run across a busy intersection Wednesday, police said.
Nicole Breton was in serious condition with a head injury at Ventura County Medical Center on Wednesday night, a nursing supervisor said.
The accident occurred when Nicole dashed across Telegraph Road at Victoria Avenue in a crosswalk just after 2:30 p.m., Ventura Police Sgt. George Morris said. The girl crossed against a red light, he said.
Nicole was hit by a car driven by Gila Shapiro, 46, of Ventura, who was headed west on Telegraph, Morris said.
Police said their investigation is continuing.
