Altadena : Parking Limits Upheld
The Altadena Town Council voted 7 to 2 with one abstention Tuesday to endorse a recent county ordinance prohibiting residents from parking cars on their property anywhere except driveways.
The ordinance was the result of residents’ protests over inoperable autos that are kept permanently parked in some front yards, Town Council chairman Gene Coffman said. But several residents objected to the new law, saying the county does not have the right to control what they do on their own property. Others said community appearance must sometimes take precedence over personal rights.
Sgt. Roger Kelley said the Altadena Sheriff’s Station has issued more than 200 citations since the ordinance was passed in July.
Coffman announced that the county will provide free Christmas tree disposal for Altadena residents.
Trees will be collected for recycling at Eaton Canyon on two Saturdays and two Sundays, Dec. 28 and 29 and Jan. 4 and 5, from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m.
