Inglewood Mayor to Run for Assembly

Inglewood Mayor Edward Vincent says it is time to move up the political ladder and has announced that he will run for a seat in the state Assembly.
The third-term mayor says he plans to run in the proposed 51st Assembly District, which would include Inglewood, Hawthorne, Lawndale and Lennox. The early favorite for the seat, incumbent Assemblyman Curtis Tucker Jr. (D-Inglewood), has decided to run for the state Senate.
Vincent said Wednesday that Tucker’s decision prompted him to scrap earlier plans to run for county supervisor and embark on an Assembly campaign instead.
“Curtis Tucker had a tremendous amount to do with it,” Vincent said. “I had aspirations to run for supervisor, and then Curtis called and said he’d support me for Assembly, and I said, ‘Hey, that would be great.’ ”
