SAN CLEMENTE : Reduction of Water Supply Is Delayed
A freeway construction project that would have curtailed the city’s water supply next week has been delayed until next month, according to city officials.
The Caltrans project, which will improve the interchange of the Santa Ana and Costa Mesa freeways in Tustin, will force the temporary disconnection of a water main to San Clemente when it gets under way.
The work that was to have begun next week has been tentatively rescheduled for Feb. 24 to March 2, said Lois Thompson, the city’s water conservation manager. City officials said the delay was prompted by problems with the contractor.
During the week of Feb. 24, only 5 million gallons of water a day will be available to the city from the Irvine Ranch Water District, which will make a temporary connection to supply lines of the Tri-Cities Water District.
An additional 1.5 million gallons of water a day will be drawn from two of the city’s wells, Thompson said.
San Clemente residents use 5 million to 7 million gallons of water a day at this time of year, Thompson said.
