UC San Diego rallied for 65 second-half points after being held to 18 in the first half and ran away from host Cal Lutheran, 83-71, in a nonconference game. Rick Batt had 22 points and John Spence added 18 for UCSD (9-4), which shot 81% (25-31) in the second half and outscored Cal Lutheran by 21 points.
HALL OF CHAMPIONS
Judy Sweet, director of athletics at UC San Diego and president of the NCAA, will be honored by the Greater San Diego Sports Assn. at a reception Monday night from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Hall of Champions.
DIVING
Monte Vista graduate Kristen Walls, a junior at UCLA, won the 1-meter springboard event at the Texas Longhorn Invitational. Walls, who redshirted last year after injuring her ankle, scored 416.20 points to defeat defending NCAA champion Betsy Girvan of Miami.
