The National Awareness Foundation will host its second annual Celebrity Showcase on Sunday, bringing their “Hugs Not Drugs” message to the Conejo Valley.
The nonprofit organization, based in Washington D.C., assists parents in educating their young children on the dangers of drugs and alcohol.
Sunday’s fund-raising event at the Ramada Inn in Agoura Hills will feature a variety of entertainment, including comedy, dancing and live music. Taking part in the show are numerous actors from such TV shows as “Cheers,” “Knots Landing,” “General Hospital,” “Days of Our Lives” and “The Young and the Restless.”
Proceeds will be used to print copies of the “Hugs Not Drugs” education book and for parent-child workshops, said Western Regional Project Coordinator Susan Backus. “The workbook empowers families,” she said. “It creates conversation and early education.” The book targets children ages 6 to 12, with a chief goal of providing kids with a viable defense against peer pressure.
The 42-page book--available at participating community organizations and businesses--is free to families upon request. Raffles will also be held, offering Universal Studio Tour passes, cast-autographed television scripts and more.
The event begins at 2 p.m.; donations are $12.
“The money that is raised stays in the community,” Backus said.
The Ramada Inn is at 30100 Agoura Road, Agoura Hills. For more information, call 378-5612 or 498-0718.
