Gault Fails to Make Bobsled Team
Raider receiver Willie Gault failed to make the U.S. Olympic bobsled squad, finishing eighth in a field of 11 sledders in the side-push competition at Altenberg, Germany.
The final four spots on the 12-man Olympic bobsled team went to Bryan Leturgez, who finished second with a best time of 7.1382 seconds; Bob Weissenfels, third with a best of 7.0978; Karlos Kirby, fifth with a best of 7.1654; and Chris Coleman, sixth with a best of 7.2436.
Three sledders who had already qualified for the Olympic team on Saturday--Herschel Walker, Greg Harrell and Joe Sawyer--also competed Sunday to show coaches their times in the side-push.
Walker out-performed all the others for the second consecutive day, finishing with a best time of 7.0573.
