Brooks Roped by Telethon: The United Cerebral Palsy Assn. raised $23.5 million nationally during its weekend telethon--including a check for $25,000 from country singer Garth Brooks. Brooks and his wife were watching the benefit Sunday in Nashville when they decided to donate 10 cents for each dollar raised locally. “It kind of made us feel good and we just jumped in the truck and got down here because we saw it on TV,” Brooks said. Los Angeles rang up about about $802,377 in pledges on Channel 9.
