Maxwell Effects to Be Auctioned Off: Art, antiques and even a bathrobe from Robert Maxwell’s luxury London apartment will be auctioned off to help clear the late media tycoon’s debts, Sotheby’s auction house said. The Feb. 14 sale is expected to raise only $700,000, however--a fraction of the millions missing from Maxwell’s global publishing empire. The more expensive items will be his 18th- and 19th-Century English furniture and decorations, French and Scandinavian paintings and furniture, and 18th-Century silver. Also to be sold are china, glass, hand-made carpets, silk curtains and bottles of wine and Champagne.
