Jim Lampley Could Be Moved Back to Sports
Jim Lampley appears to be headed back to sports at KCBS, Channel 2. The station announced a revamped lineup of news anchors Wednesday, and Lampley isn’t in the lineup.
Sources say Lampley, who is being sent to Albertville, France, to cover the Winter Olympics, will move to sports when he returns, if he accepts the role.
A station spokeswoman said Lampley is still under contract.
Lampley, who came to Channel 2 as a sportscaster in September, 1987, to replace Jim Hill, became a news anchor in August, 1988. He was replaced by Keith Olbermann, who left the station two months ago when his contract was not renewed.
Since then, the station has had Rory Markas and Gil Stratton do the sports while interviewing possible replacements for Olbermann.
The changes Wednesday came one day after John Lippman became the station’s news director.
Lampley was anchoring the 6 p.m. news with Tritia Toyota and the 11 p.m. news with his wife, Bree Walker. Walker and Michael Tuck were on the 5 p.m. show.
The new lineup has Chris Conangla and Toyota on at 5, and Walker and Tuck handling the 6 and 11 p.m. shows.
Calls to Lampley were not returned.
