Boy Fatally Injured as Pickup Hits Bike

SANTA ANA — An 8-year-old bicyclist died Tuesday afternoon after colliding with a pickup truck, police said.
Ricardo Lopez of Santa Ana was riding east at 4th and McClay streets, witnesses told police, when he turned left into the path of a pickup truck.
The boy was taken to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana for severe trauma to the head and body, police said.
He died shortly after the 1:22 p.m. collision, Lt. Robert Helton said.
Helton said police did not cite the driver of the pickup. Traffic investigators are continuing their investigation of the accident, he said.
