Pierce 9, Saddleback 6--Erik Martinez was four for five and scored three runs as Pierce (4-0) remained unbeaten with a nonconference victory at home.
Josh Smaler had three hits, including a pair of doubles, and Robby Welles hit a solo home run in the sixth to break a 5-5 tie and spark a three-run rally. It was Welles’ fourth home run.
Albertson 9, The Master’s 7--Albertson (1-0) scored eight runs in the final three innings to come from behind in a nonconference game at Master’s.
Master’s (1-4) wasted 13 hits, including four by catcher Dan O’Sullivan, who also had a two-run home run.
Mt. San Antonio 2, Ventura 1--Chris Marsden and Mitch King each had two hits for visiting Ventura (2-2) in a nonconference loss. Sam Arroyo (0-1) and Karl Whitnall combined on a six-hitter for Ventura. In four innings, Whitnall allowed no runs on two hits, walked one and struck out none.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Canyons 83, West Los Angeles 69--Jeff Dorst scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to help Canyons (23-6, 8-1) beat West L.A. (4-23, 1-8) and clinch a share of the Western State Conference title. Jason Joynes scored 16 points and Tim Fontenette added 13 for Canyons.
Canyons can win the title outright with a victory over Glendale on Saturday.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 60, Cal Lutheran 46--Evelyn Albert scored 16 points, but Cal Lutheran (1-19, 1-9) fell in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game at Claremont.
SOFTBALL
Riverside 5, Antelope Valley 0--Host Riverside took advantage of two errors in the first inning to score five unearned runs in a nonconference game.
