TENNIS ROUNDUP : Chang Is Upset by Grabb in Second Round at U.S. Pro

Jim Grabb upset third-seeded Michael Chang, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, in the second round of the U.S. Pro Indoor tennis tournament Tuesday at Philadelphia.
With a backhand passing shot down the line, Grabb eliminated Chang, the 1989 winner of the French Open and the 12th-ranked player in the world. Grabb is ranked 88th.
In an earlier upset, Rodolphe Gilber of France defeated eighth-seeded Richey Reneberg, 6-4, 6-2.
In second-round matches, Paul Haarhuis of the Netherlands defeated Christiano Caratti of Italy, 7-6 (7-0), 6-4; fifth-seeded Derrick Rostagno beat Renzo Furlan of Italy, 5-7, 6-3, 6-3, and No. 7 Wayne Ferreira of South Africa beat Chris Pridham, 6-4, 6-4.
Jim Courier and Stefan Edberg, the world’s top two players, breezed to opening-round victories at a $1-million ATP tournament at Stuttgart, Germany.
Courier needed only 66 minutes to beat Italian qualifier Diego Nargiso, 6-3, 6-3. Edberg overwhelmed fellow Swede Magnus Larsson, 6-2, 6-2.
Sixth-seeded Debbie Graham struggled to a 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 (7-5) victory over Beverly Bowes in first-round play at the Virginia Slims of Oklahoma.
