Man Killed, Four Hurt as Gunman Fires Into Bar
A gunman armed with a semiautomatic rifle stood in the doorway of a Pomona bar and opened fire Thursday, killing one man and wounding four others, police said.
Two of those injured were in critical condition at an area hospital, authorities said.
“We have absolutely no motive,” said Pomona Police Lt. Joe Romero. “There was no attempt at robbery, and as far as we know, the assailant didn’t say anything.”
The gunman, described by police as tall and thin and in his late teens or early 20s, fired about 30 rounds into the Lucky Six Bar in a shopping center in the 2100 block of South Garey Avenue at 9:50 p.m., said Sgt. Ronald Windell.
“We’re still trying to sort everything out,” Romero said.
The long, narrow bar measures about 12 feet from wall to wall and includes three pool tables. The gunfire left the interior littered with shattered glass, and investigators found a blood-soaked shoe at the scene.
Two of the victims, none of whom was identified, suffered minor wounds, Windell said.
The gunman ran away, police said. Police searched the area for several hours without finding the suspect, authorities said.
