Spring preseason honors: El Dorado’s baseball team is ranked second in the nation in Baseball America’s prep preseason poll. El Dorado, which finished 20-7 last season, returns most of its key starters, including standout pitcher/first baseman Tyson DowDell.

Bellaire of Houston, Tex., is the top-ranked team in the poll that includes 25 schools. Other Southern California teams ranked include Diamond Bar (third) and Long Beach Millikan (18th).

Mater Dei outfielder Cale Carter was ranked among the top 25 players in the nation by USA Today. Carter, a senior, is a two-time All-Angelus League selection who will attend Stanford in the fall.
