THE TIMES’ 1991-92 ALL-COUNTY BOYS’ BASKETBALL TEAM : First-Team Profiles

Name: Tom Airey Position: GUARD School: CAPISTRANO VALLEY

Airey set three county three-point shooting records during his two-year career. He made 10 three-point shots in a single game, had 129 this season and totaled 253 in his career. Airey’s career mark fell five short of the Southern Section record of 258 established by former Rolling Hills star Steve Clover. Airey’s senior year ended abruptly when he broke his foot. He will attend Loyola Marymount University. Name: Adam Anderson Position: FORWARD School: SERVITE

Anderson led Servite to the Southern Section Division III-A championship as a junior and to the State Division III championship as a sophomore with his inside play, rebounding and leadership. He started slowly this year because of an ankle injury, but Servite advanced to the semifinals of the Division III-AA playoffs, where it lost to eventual champion Inglewood Morningside. Anderson will attend Santa Clara. Name: Jason Cunningham Position: FORWARD School: LOS ALAMITOS

Cunningham rewrote the record book at Los Alamitos during his three-year career. He holds marks for most points in a career (1,427), most points in a season (640), most field goals in a season (271) and most field goals in a career (609). He earned first-team all-Empire League honors for three consecutive years and was the league’s co-player of the year this season with Esperanza’s Matt Kordik after averaging 24.8 points. Name: Matt Fuerbringer Position: FORWARD School: ESTANCIA

Fuerbringer helped Estancia win a sectional title as a sophomore and a regional title and the State Division III championship last year as a junior. He played in 98 games in his three-year career, during which Estancia compiled a record of 75-23. He was the player of the year in the Pacific Coast League as a junior. Fuerbringer will attend Stanford University on a volleyball scholarship. Name: Jermaine Galloway Position: CENTER School: KENNEDY

Galloway is a two-time player of the year in the Garden Grove League and helped the Irish compile a league record of 40-2 during his three-year career. Kennedy advanced to the Southern Section Division II-A championship game this season. Galloway joins Edison’s Brandon Jessie as the only repeat first-team selections from last season’s all-county team. Galloway will attend DePaul University. Name: Reggie Geary Position: GUARD School: MATER DEI

Geary is the two-time player of the year in the Angelus League. He is easily the most athletic player on the all-county team. He is equally efficient as a point guard or off guard and was the only senior starter for the Monarchs. He averaged 14.8 points, 5.1 rebounds and 6.5 assists per game and was the leader for the county’s top-ranked team. Geary will attend the University of Arizona in the fall. Name: Brandon Jessie Position: FORWARD School: EDISON

A repeat selection, Jessie established school records for most points in a career (1,580) and most rebounds in a career (818) as a three-year starter. He also set the school’s single-game scoring record with 43 points against Westminster this season. Jessie played in 80 career games and was twice named Sunset League player of the year. Jessie, son of former NFL All-Pro Ron Jessie, is also an outstanding wide receiver. Name: Terry Mann Position: FORWARD School: SUNNY HILLS

Mann surpassed former Sunny Hills standout guard Brad McNamara as the career scoring leader for the Lancers during his three-year career. He was twice named the player of the year in the Freeway League, leading Sunny Hills to three consecutive league titles. Mann is also an outstanding student who is a candidate for class valedictorian with a 4.6 grade-point average. He will likely attend an Ivy League school. Name: Derek Roche Position: GUARD School: TUSTIN

Roche was a one-man team for Tustin in its first eight games, when two starters were competing on the school’s football team and another, Jentry Moore, was out with an ankle injury. Roche averaged 31 points in the first eight games and finished as the team’s top scorer with an 18-point average. Roche, who earned first-team all-Sea View League honors, is the son of Dick Roche, former University football coach. Name: Gavin Vanderputten Position: CENTER School: TRABUCO HILLS

Vanderputten, a foreign exchange student from Australia, had no problem adjusting to the American brand of basketball. He averaged 20.4 points, 11 rebounds and 3.8 blocked shots. Vanderputten was player of the year in the Pacific Coast League. He has narrowed his list of college choices to Fresno State, Utah, North Carolina Charlotte, Syracuse, Pepperdine, University of San Diego, Arizona State and Arizona.
