LONDON : Tight Parliament Race

Great Britain will hold one of its most closely fought national elections in years on Thursday.

Public opinion polls show the opposition Labor Party led by Neil Kinnock with a slight lead over the governing Conservative Party headed by Prime Minister John Major.

If neither major party garners an absolute majority, as appears possible, the result will be a “hung” Parliament, which would enhance the role of the much smaller Liberal Democrats under Paddy Ashdown.
