VW Recalls Cars for Heater Problem: Volkswagen United States is recalling 650,000 cars to correct the vehicles’ heat exchanger systems. The company said the vehicles are 1985 through early 1990 Golf, GTI and Jetta models. The heat exchanger, part of the engine’s cooling system, warms the vehicles’ interiors. Volkswagen said if an engine overheats, an exchanger could be damaged and rupture, allowing hot engine coolant to enter the passenger compartment. In a few cases, drivers have suffered skin injuries because of the failure, Volkswagen said.
