Claremont : Suit Filed Over The Woods
A citizens group has sued the city and Pomona College, claiming that it was illegal for the city to approve construction of an academic building on a popular vacant parcel of land, and that the project should be halted.
The city approved erecting the 22,000-foot Hahn Academic Building in the area known as The Woods in March, despite loud opposition by several community members.
The Committee to Save Our Village alleges in the Pomona Superior Court suit filed Thursday that the city unlawfully passed the proposal without preparing an environmental impact report. The plaintiffs--who include Ray Fowler, Robert Stafford, John McCarthy and Charles Chase--also claim that the college building would be inconsistent with the Village Design Plan and create traffic and parking problems, among other disruptions.
