School Voucher Initiative
Thank you for the accurate description of the so-called pro-choice initiative. Not only does the initiative dilute funding for public education, it opens the floodgates for academies of dubious intent and promotes government interference in the established private system.
In any initiative, one question stands out, “Who will gain from this?” Those with the greatest need for education may be denied admittance by newly formed academies. Established church schools, as petition centers, may become unwitting dupes of a faceless organization with a hidden agenda. Ultimately, some powerful, moneyed interests want the benefits of private schools without having to pay for them.
As a public schoolteacher with children in a Catholic school, I see the value of both systems. Their strength lies in being separate. I am willing to make the sacrifices necessary to keep them strong.
