Rep. Dana Rohrabacher
“Pushing Buttons, Not Reason” (editorial, April 21) is sidestepping the issue Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-Huntington Beach) is raising. The way you couched your criticism leads one to believe that the congressman is against any type of immigration. I don’t think so.
Your statement “numerous studies suggest that the long-run benefits of immigration greatly exceed any short-run costs (to American society),” is undoubtedly correct. Notice that the term immigration , in this context, implies legal immigration. Or adding new members to American society in a manner designed to avoid overwhelming the culture and scarce local, county and state social services. It has also been suggested that only 15% is recovered against the cost the local community experiences in extending scarce resources and services to illegal immigrants.
Rohrabacher is not just seeking attention, rather he is voicing the concerns of his constituents. That is his job.
