SAN DIEGO : Trial Ordered for 7 in Theft Scheme
Seven defendants, most of whom live in the San Francisco Bay Area, were ordered to stand trial Wednesday on charges involving the theft of wallets, primarily at hospitals and medical buildings in San Diego.
Municipal Judge Janet I. Kintner ordered the group to stand trial after a four-day preliminary hearing. In addition to conspiracy, the defendants are charged with theft and auto theft.
Prosecutors said the group generally targeted elderly victims in elevators at medical centers. In many instances, the victims’ credit cards were used, along with their altered driver’s licenses, to illegally rent cars.
The group, most of whom are being held on $100,000 bail, will be arraigned May 20 in Superior Court.
