USAir Settles Piedmont Bias Complaint: USAir has agreed to pay $1.8 million to settle a bias complaint that was filed against Piedmont Aviation Inc. prior to its acquisition by USAir. USAir spokesman David Shipley said the lawsuit filed by minority applicants for pilot and flight attendant positions was among the liabilities USAir acquired when it merged with Piedmont. The settlement stems from an April, 1988, complaint filed by the U.S. Department of Labor against Piedmont, alleging that it discriminated against minority applicants from 1984 through 1988.
