Cypress, Texas Instruments Vie for Sun’s Business: Cypress Semiconductor Corp. introduced a speedy new microprocessor, setting up a rivalry with Texas Instruments Inc. as a supplier of chips to the No. 1 maker of powerful workstation computers. Mountain View-based Sun Microsystems Inc. hasn’t yet decided which business suitor to choose after endorsing both Cypress’ “hyperSPARC” microprocessor and Texas Instruments’ “SuperSparc,” introduced last week. Microprocessors act as the brains of the workstations, which are desktop machines more powerful than personal computers aimed primarily at scientists and engineers.
