San Pasqual’s Combe Fires No-No: a No-Hitter With No Strikeouts
Erin Combe, a junior right-hander, pitched a no-hitter and allowed only one baserunner, on a walk in the bottom of third, to lead San Pasqual to a 7-0 Avocado League softball victory over Carlsbad Thursday.
Combe (14-3) faced only 21 batters but had no strikeouts. The one batter she walked was subsequently erased on a double play.
“Just a lot of infield grounders,” Cougar Coach Mike Basalo said. “We had excellent defense by the infield. Plus Erin was hitting the corners and her drop pitch was really working. And, of course, she only walked one.”
Combe also produced some offense with two hits, including a double, and an RBI. In addition, senior second baseman Richelle Stump went three or four, including a triple, with three RBIs and two runs.
San Pasqual finished the regular season in second place at 11-3 (17-6 overall). Carlsbad finished at 5-20, 5-9.
