The Utah Jazz signed Scott Layden, its player personnel director, to a long-term contract, only days after fielding inquiries about him from the Milwaukee Bucks.
The NBA club also gave Layden the new title of director of basketball operations, but no other details of the contract were disclosed.
Layden, who joined the Jazz as an assistant coach in 1981, is considered the mastermind behind the scouting, draft and trade decisions that brought All-Stars John Stockton and Karl Malone to the Jazz and more recently added Jeff Malone and Tyrone Corbin.
