LONG BEACH : Fired Chief of Police Granted New Hearing

A Los Angeles Superior Court judge ruled Tuesday that former Long Beach Police Chief Lawrence Binkley, who was fired last January, is entitled to a new appeal hearing.
Judge Robert H. O’Brien said that the city of Long Beach violated Binkley’s procedural rights “in every respect.” Binkley filed a lawsuit against Long Beach and City Manager James C. Hankla last May, arguing he was fired without cause and then not given a fair appeal hearing.
Assistant City Atty. Robert E Shannon said Long Beach will appeal O’Brien’s decision.
