Aerospace Technology Used for New Commercial Venture: TRW and Paracel, a Pasadena-based start-up electronics firm, formed a joint venture to produce special purpose computers for very rapid scanning of data, the two firms said. Paracel was founded by Kwang-I Yu, a former TRW engineer who invented the special purpose computer, known as the “fast data finder.” The terms and arrangements of the joint venture were not disclosed, but Yu said that Paracel would produce the systems and TRW would integrate them into their systems for the government. The fast data finder technology, utilizing massively parallel data processing for scanning text, was developed for defense needs, but its greatest promise now is in genetics research, medical research and various government efforts, Yu said.
