A Hollywood man with a history of making bogus 911 emergency calls--including 65 in one day--has been ordered to undergo three years of psychological counseling, City Atty. James K. Hahn said Thursday.

A Superior Court judge Wednesday gave Robert Craig Berschinski, 33, a suspended one-year jail sentence that may be revoked if he makes any more of the calls.

Berschinski was also sentenced to three months in jail after pleading no contest to an unrelated vandalism charge. He has been in custody since July 1, when he was arrested after leaving court while waiting for his case to be heard, authorities said.

Prosecutors said Berschinski has a long history of abusing 911, but that the last straw came April 4 when he made 65 calls from his apartment between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Upon being asked to provide a phone number when police arrested him in April, Berschinski told them to call 911, prosecutors said.
