Detroit outfielder Skeeter Barnes was suspended for three games by American League president Bobby Brown for charging the mound after being hit by a pitch from Seattle’s Kerry Woodson. The incident precipitated a bench-clearing incident in a July 21 game at Seattle. Barnes has appealed the suspension, so can continue to play pending a hearing. . . . Baseball’s ownership committee confirmed that Tiger owner Thomas Monaghan has proposed selling the team to Detroit Red Wing owner Mike Ilitch.
