Valley TV News Station Makes Debut

The first television station in the San Fernando Valley to feature local, national and international news debuted last week on UHF channel 24.
KSFV in Calabasas, or World Television, features foreign-language news, 24 hours a day, from more than 46 countries. The station, owned by Venture Technologies Group Inc., will have a potential audience of 1.3 million viewers in the Valley area.
Charles Lohr, KSFV’s general manager and program director, said the decision to go to the international news format grew from the increasing ethnic diversity of the Los Angeles area. Continuous news will be provided in nearly 40 languages, with much of the programming from foreign news networks such as NHK in Japan, TF1 in France, Germany’s ZDF, News 1 in Russia and CNN.
Venture Technologies, based in Calabasas, builds and manages broadcast and cable operations, and owns several TV stations throughout the United States. It plans to start two other World Television stations, in Greater Los Angeles and the Inland Empire.
