A gun battle at an Eastside market left two men dead and two security guards wounded, police said Wednesday.
Detectives said the confrontation began outside the door of Jonsons Market in the 3400 block of Whittier Boulevard shortly before midnight Tuesday. The men drew handguns and shot at one security guard, who drew a gun and returned fire, killing both men, investigators said.
The guard was shot in the buttocks and his left arm was grazed, police said. The second guard, who was in the store but not on duty, was shot in the chest in the gunfight, police said. Michael Horcasitas, 35, of Commerce and Alfred Perez Jr., 24, of Los Angeles died at the scene, a coroner’s spokesman said. The wounded guards were not identified.
