A bank security officer chased down and detained an alleged bank robber Tuesday, holding him until police arrived to make an arrest.
Robert William Gray, 47, a transient, was arrested on suspicion of robbery. About 10:35 a.m, Gray allegedly handed a note to a teller at the California Federal Bank, 695 Town Center Drive, demanding that she turn over her cash, police said.
“He gave her the note and simulated like he had a weapon in his pocket,” said Sgt. Dale Birney of the Costa Mesa police. The teller gave Gray the money. Police declined to specify how much was handed over.
The bank security officer chased the man and cornered him in a parking lot at 602 Anton Blvd.
When police arrived, the suspect was being detained in the basement level by the security officer.
