Japan Lists 4,152 People Over 100 Years

TOKYO — The number of people in Japan aged 100 or older reached a record 4,152 as of Sept. 1, marking the 22nd consecutive year of increases, the Health and Welfare Ministry said Tuesday. The centenarians consisted of 3,330 females and 822 males.
Japan’s oldest person is Tane Ikai of Nagoya, aged 113 years. The oldest man is Gengan Tonaki of Okinawa, aged 107 years, the ministry said.
