Junior Felix’s stock, which fell during interim manager John Wathan’s term, apparently has rebounded under Buck Rodgers.
“Since I’ve been back, he’s been playing a super center field,” Rodgers said. “Yes, he’s made a couple of mistakes and yes, he broke back on a couple of balls, but overall I’d say he’s an above-average center fielder. . . .
“A left-handed hitter in the middle of the lineup and starting pitching, those are the things I would judge are a higher priority right now.”

The A’s sent Mark McGwire (strained rib-cage muscle) back to Oakland for treatment and a cortisone shot. . . . Angel right fielder Tim Salmon, who was named MVP of the Pacific Coast League, hit off a tee but was bothered by his sore left wrist.
