Applications are being accepted for city-sponsored grants to fund neighborhood-based projects that will protect or improve the environment in the West San Fernando Valley.
The grants of up to $1,000 each are sponsored by the city of Los Angeles Environmental Affairs Commission and Southern California Gas Co., said Adrienne Miller, a spokeswoman for the Environmental Affairs Department.
Encouraged to apply for the grants are community and business organizations from West Valley communities such as Reseda, Canoga Park, West Hills, Woodland Hills, Van Nuys, Tarzana and Encino, Miller said.
Projects that have received funding in the past include tree-plantings, environmental fairs, youth poster contests and recycling projects.
The deadline to submit applications is Oct. 16, Miller said.
