Barnes Helps Trabuco Hills Top Woodbridge

MISSION VIEJO — Quarterback Pat Barnes threw three touchdown passes and ran for two others to lead Trabuco Hills to a 34-24 nonleague victory over Woodbridge Thursday night at Trabuco Hills High.
The Mustangs (3-0), ranked fourth in Orange County, fell behind, 24-0, with eight minutes remaining in the first half before scoring 34 consecutive points to top Woodbridge (1-2).
Barnes completed nine of 21 passes for 157 yards while Woodbridge quarterback Shea Stone connected on 17 of 28 for 191 yards and one touchdown.
Trabuco Hills closed the gap, 24-20, when Barnes connected with Brad Cervantes on a 12-yard touchdown pass with 4:42 left in third quarter.
The Mustangs then took the lead when Barnes scored on a two-yard plunge over the middle with 2:29 left in the third.
Barnes then ran for a two-point conversion to give Trabuco Hills a 28-24 advantage.
He scored next from 14 yards out at 3:36 of the fourth quarter, giving Trabuco Hills a 34-24 lead.
Woodbridge dominated the game early. Gary Young’s 52-yard touchdown run on the fourth play from scrimmage put the Warriors ahead, 7-0.
Fullback Rich Rommelfanger then scored from eight yards out with 8:33 remaining in the first quarter to give Woodbridge a 14-0 lead.
