Covina : Business Recycling Effort
In an attempt to reduce commercial refuse, the City Council on Tuesday directed staff to draw up contracts with three recycling consultants to help local businesses recycle.
Under the proposal, Resource Integration Systems, Americlean Environmental Services and J. Michael Hulls will work with businesses, suggesting ways to reduce waste and hooking them up with recycling haulers. The city will pay the consultants $20,000 for a year plus $7,500 for each 5% of waste kept out of landfills.
“A 10% waste stream diversion could save businesses up to $260,000 a year,” said Cary Kalsheuer, city environmental analyst. He said the consultants would set up businesses with recyclers to cover the cost of collection by selling recycled materials.
